Praised for her “dark and earthy…visceral and emotional playing” (Seen and Heard International) and “outrageous soloing chops…a beam of a light” (Cleveland Classical), Caitlin Hedge’s musicianship and versatility as a genre-crossing multi-instrumentalist captivates audiences. She is an award-winning fiddler, violinist and violist in orchestral and baroque styles, violist d’amore, guitarist, singer and songwriter. Her most recent early music albums include The Galant David Rizzio (2022) with Scottish historical performance band Makaris, and Science Ficta’s Ronde de Saisons (2023), to critical acclaim. Her debut solo album Stranger was released digitally in 2023. Performing frequently with historical performance ensembles, Hedge collaborated most recently with ACRONYM, Alkemie, Les Délices, Science Ficta, Chivalrous Crickets, Alla Boara, and Apollo’s Fire (2022 Young Artist Apprentice, 2022-2023 featured soloist, ‘The Road to Dublin’ and ‘WASSAIL’). She has led historical performance clinics and performed as featured soloist at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory Bach Festival for several consecutive years. Caitlin is a violist and member of Erie Philharmonic, and an alumnus of Baldwin Wallace University (‘15, BM), the Dana School of Music (‘17, MM), and Case Western Reserve University (‘24, MA Historical Performance Practice). Her research interests include 17th-18th century music of Scotland and England, in particular the intersection of art music and folk traditions. Outside of performance engagements, Hedge enjoys hiking, baking, reading, teaching music to younger generations, listening to progressive classical, newgrass, or thriller podcasts, and spending precious time with her husband, daughter, and two cats.
